Porque durante muchos años se olvidó que la liberación de París del yugo nazi tuvo como protagonistas principales a los hombres de La Nueve.
Integrada en la 2º División Blindada, al mando del general Leclerc, La Nueve estaba compuesta casi exclusivamente por republicanos españoles los Pingüinos -, que conduciendo sus half-track con nombres tan inequívocos como España Cañí, Guadalajara, Brunete, Santander, Teruel, Ebro o Almirante Buiza,fueron los primeros en desafiar a la numerosa guarnición alemana, penetrar por la antigua Puerta de Italia y atravesar toda la ciudad hasta llegar al ayuntamiento de la capital la tarde del 24 de agosto de 1944. Esta novela, como dice Evelyn Mesquida en su prólogo, rinde homenaje a ese combate y a todos los republicanos que lucharon bajo dos tricolores para liberar a Europa.
